Preview a PDF's AI filename before renaming it on a Mac

At a glance

A PDF reader built Ramener to replace cryptic filenames with dates, sources, and titles extracted by a model. This workflow is listed under File Organization, PDFs, Life Admin.

What they did

1) On macOS, obtain the Ramener app from the jollychang/ramener project and place it in /Applications. Have an Aliyun Bailian API key and a report PDF ready. 2) Launch the app's settings and supply the service, API key, model, and endpoint; the documented default model is qwen3-omni-flash. 3) To preview the operation, run /Applications/Ramener.app/Contents/MacOS/ramener --dry-run followed by the quoted path to your PDF. It prints the proposed filename without copying or trashing the file. 4) Check the extracted date, source, and title against the document. Rerun without --dry-run to process it, or open the app and choose the PDF. 5) Inspect the resulting YYYY-MM-DD_Source_Title.pdf filename in Finder. For later one-click use, the project also supplies a Finder toolbar helper.

Worth knowing

The app calls Aliyun's model service; standalone installation does not mean local inference. Running OCR from source additionally needs Poppler and image dependencies.
