What they did

1) Use Gmail on a computer with a Google account and a supported language. Enable Smart features in Gmail, Chat and Meet and Smart features in Google Workspace in Gmail settings. 2) Open a conversation containing a task assigned to you and a due date. At the top, choose Summarize this email to generate its AI Overview. 3) Read the summary alongside the messages to check the task and deadline. If a deadline task is offered, click Remind me beside it. 4) Use Edit reminder to correct the date if needed, then find the task in Google Tasks or Google Calendar. When finished, mark it complete from the overview or task list.

Worth knowing

The reminder action is offered for a task with a deadline; an arbitrary thread may not show it. Turning off smart features also disables other related Gmail features.
