What they did

1) Enable Code execution and file creation in Claude's Capabilities settings. Export one to three months of checking and card transactions as CSV, remove account-number columns, and retain dates, descriptions and amounts. 2) Upload the files and request one combined transaction table. Supply your spending categories, classify transfers and card payments between your own accounts separately to avoid double counting, and request uncertain rows plus monthly category totals before building the workbook. Correct mislabeled merchants. 3) Request an XLSX containing transactions, a monthly summary, budget versus actual, and recurring charges. Require SUMIFS formulas linked to the transaction tab and a check comparing summary spending with transaction totals. 4) Download the workbook, independently total one category, and reconcile overall income and spending with your statements. Resolve differences before using it next month.

Worth knowing

This workflow uses uploaded exports. New transactions require another upload, and the tutorial explicitly calls for checking the generated calculations.
