Make a language-practice scene from an exact phrase sheet

At a glance

Phillip Alcock describes turning one everyday exchange into a NotebookLM video lesson while checking that the target-language phrases survive generation. This workflow is listed under Language Learning, Study Tools, Travel Preparation.

What they did

1) Use NotebookLM with Cinematic Video Overview access. Prepare one short source document for one situation, such as ordering coffee: setting, roles, dialogue in order, exact target-language phrases with English meanings, register, and learning goal. 2) Upload it to a notebook and first request a text overview to check the source interpretation. 3) Choose the Cinematic format. Add one steering instruction focused on the scene or beginner level, rather than combining many competing requests, and generate the video. 4) Watch the result against the phrase sheet. If it changes vocabulary, omits a phrase, or misorders the exchange, revise the source or steering instruction and regenerate. Keep a version only after checking the language.

Worth knowing

The author says finished videos cannot be edited within this workflow and repeated generations can differ; the documented narration was in English.
