What they did
1) Install Earnote on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later with about 8 GB of memory. Allow microphone access and complete the first-run speech and local language-model downloads. 2) Start recording from the menu bar; Earnote captures microphone and system audio, so it can include an online lecture. Stop when the session ends and let transcription and note generation finish. 3) Open note and transcript side by side with Command+3. Click transcript timestamps to replay unclear passages and compare tasks and deadlines with what was actually said. 4) Correct names and technical terms, edit the generated note, and review its question-and-answer cards. 5) Save or print the reviewed note as a PDF study sheet.
How it went
The developer reports roughly five to six minutes to transcribe a one-hour recording on an M1 MacBook Air, plus note-generation time.
Worth knowing
The default Mac workflow runs locally; choosing a cloud model sends text outside the device. Ask participants before recording.
