What they did
1) Have a readable image of the handwritten record and a ChatGPT account. Open Cursive Curator at https://chatgpt.com/g/g-690bcd92405481918489eeb92ce76924-cursive-curator-technical-genealogist and submit the image for literal transcription. 2) Require visible wording, spelling, capitalization and line structure to be retained, with unreadable or uncertain passages marked in brackets rather than reconstructed. Request separate notes on ambiguous handwriting. 3) Compare the transcription with the scan, especially names and dates. For a doubtful word, use the GPT's separate single-word analysis mode and keep the uncertainty explicit. 4) Keep the checked transcription and its ambiguity notes with the source image before drawing conclusions about relationships or dates; interpretation comes after transcription.
How it went
The demonstrated Adge-family transcription preserved unusual spellings and line breaks and marked unreadable content.
Worth knowing
The comparison also exposed a name error: Cursive Curator rendered Emma where another tool read Emmer. A disciplined output format still requires checking against the handwriting.
