Anthropic Claude Code v2.1.302 (Oct 16 changelog): fork subagents (`subagent_type: "fork"`) are now default in `claude -p`, the Agent SDK, desktop app, and VS Code (already default in the terminal). Disable with CLAUDE_CODE_FORK_SUBAGENT=0; `claude mcp serve` never offers forks. Also: CLAUDE_CODE_AUTO_MODE_MODEL for the client-side auto-mode classifier, /config idle-compaction toggle, and notice that standalone Claude Design shuts down Dec 14, 2026.
