What they did
Driving through Portland on July 4 looking for food, with Maps showing uncertain holiday hours and consumer AI assistants unable to help, they used their PlaceCall API to find about 15 Thai and sushi places and call them in parallel. The API navigates phone menus, waits on hold, and returns structured outcomes with recordings and transcripts. They later open-sourced examples for Claude Code and Codex and posted a Show HN.
How it went
Several restaurants confirmed they were open and taking walk-ins; one that Google marked closed was actually open. Hackathon builders also used it to check whether doctors accept new patients and to get car-service quotes.
Worth knowing
Founder launch post; US-focused. Muse-style single-call agents still call one place at a time, which is the gap PlaceCall targets.
