Check room geometry before trusting an AI furniture layout

At a glance

An interior designer tests ChatGPT against a real condo plan and catches layouts that change the room itself. This workflow is listed under Home Design, Output Verification.

What they did

1) Prepare the actual floor plan and a current room photograph. The designer made the plan in Planner5D for a bachelor condo. 2) Attach the floor plan in ChatGPT and specify the required furniture: a double bed, movable TV, sofa and one table for both work and dining. Ask for a functional layout within that plan. 3) Compare the proposed layout with the original geometry and point out any changed walls or room shape before requesting a revision. 4) If revisions still change the room, stop using them for space planning. The designer then uploaded the real room photo for an earthy green-and-yellow decorating experiment and checked that result for structural alterations too.

How it went

Both generated floor plans were wrong. The decorating image also changed structural features, and the designer would not present it to a client.
