What they did

1) Open ChatGPT and a place to keep your journal. Choose a topic and state what you want from the reflection, then write one or two paragraphs in your own words to establish the context. 2) Paste that writing into the conversation and request open-ended questions based on it. Specify the topic you want to explore rather than asking for a generic journal entry. 3) Choose questions that resonate, answer them yourself, and ask for another batch when the first set misses useful angles. Ignore irrelevant suggestions and correct assumptions that do not fit your experience. 4) Review the exchange critically and carry the useful questions and your own responses into the continuing journal entry.

How it went

Koester reports using generated pre-writing questions to start a stream-of-consciousness session that supplied several ideas for this article.
