What they did
1) Sign in to NotebookLM and create a notebook for one proposal. Add the files or media containing the relevant evidence in Sources; the video's example objective is increasing Gemini's monthly active users. 2) If you use Fast Research to discover more material, open and assess the results before adding them. The presenter limits a pass to three reviewed sources. Synchronize changed Google files; uploaded PDFs remain static. 3) Open the chat configuration and set custom instructions around the proposal's goal and audience. Use the chat to investigate the evidence and save useful findings as notes; convert important notes into sources for later outputs. 4) In Studio, open Reports and choose a suitable source-aware format, or select a custom report and specify its purpose and audience. 5) Generate the report, then inspect its claims against the notebook's evidence before using it as your proposal draft.
Worth knowing
Source discovery returns candidates for review. The presenter distinguishes it from Deep Research, which also synthesizes a report.
