Condense selected iPhone text into key points

At a glance

Apple's Writing Tools can summarize selected notes or documents without moving them into a separate chat. This workflow is listed under Reading, Summaries, Personal Notes.

What they did

1) Start with an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone, Apple Intelligence enabled, and a supported device and Siri language. Open the text you want to condense in an app that supports Writing Tools. 2) Select the relevant passage rather than unrelated surrounding text, then tap the Writing Tools button. 3) Choose Summarize for a condensed version or Key Points for the main points. 4) Read the generated version against your selection to check that it keeps the important details. When finished with the refinement, tap Done. Use the resulting text as your reading aid after checking the original for anything consequential.

Worth knowing

Apple says Writing Tools are available in most places you write, including third-party apps and websites. Device, language and regional availability apply, and server-based features can have usage limits.
