Turn a dress idea into a checked sewing plan and shopping list

What they did
1) Bring a real sewing pattern and its cutting layout to a ChatGPT or Claude conversation. Describe the garment, fabric width and weight, your skill level, machine and supplies already owned. The tutorial uses a sleeveless linen dress with a back zip. 2) Request the pieces and notions; check for facings, interfacing, zip, thread and closures rather than accepting an incomplete list. 3) Ask for yardage, then verify it against your size and the pattern's cutting layout before buying fabric. 4) Request construction order and fit it into your available sessions, allowing practice time for the invisible zip. Check that the zip is inserted before closing the seam below it. 5) Save the plan and shopping list outside the chat. While sewing, ask specific technique questions and test suggested machine settings on a folded scrap.
Worth knowing
This is a planning walkthrough, not a completed-garment result. Generic chat output does not supply reliable pattern geometry or prove fit.
