What they did

1) Have Docker, a running Mealie instance with its AI provider configured, a Mealie API token, and funded OpenAI API access. Create a Social-to-Mealie Compose service using image ghcr.io/gerardpollorebozado/social-to-mealie:latest and port mapping 4000:3000. 2) Set OPENAI_URL to https://api.openai.com/v1, provide OPENAI_API_KEY, set TRANSCRIPTION_MODEL=whisper-1 and TEXT_MODEL=gpt-4o as in the shared setup, and fill MEALIE_URL, MEALIE_API_KEY, and your MEALIE_GROUP_NAME. Use EXTRA_PROMPT if a specific output language is needed. 3) Start with docker compose up -d, open http://localhost:4000, and submit a cooking reel's link. The service downloads the video, transcribes it, creates structured recipe data, and imports it. 4) Open the resulting recipe in Mealie and check its ingredient and instruction fields before using it.

How it went

The commenter reported five successful Instagram-reel tests and extensive use by his wife.

Worth knowing

Another user's transcription failure was resolved by replenishing API credit. The reported working setup used Mealie 3.10.1.
