What they did
1) Start a ChatGPT conversation with your destination and your experience gap: the author was visiting Lapland for the first time and had never traveled in extreme cold. 2) Ask for a packing list, then answer the assistant's follow-up about exact travel dates and planned activities. The author's December trip included a sled-dog tour and a northern-lights tour, with a preference for light packing. 3) Use the revised quantities and categories as the checklist: base layers, fleece or sweater, parka, snow pants, insulated boots and wool socks; then hat, neck protection, gloves and liners; finally power bank, adapter, moisturizer and daypack. 4) After traveling, compare the list against what you used and identify the extra items you unnecessarily carried.
How it went
The traveler judged the list close to actual needs but still overpacked. Carry-on-only travel was what he thought would have been possible, not what he actually did.
