Build a grocery list from saved family recipes and house rules

At a glance

Emily Ley keeps recipes and shopping preferences in a Claude Project so a weekly menu becomes a household-specific grocery list. This workflow is listed under Meal Planning, Groceries, Household Management.

What they did

1) Create a Claude Project for grocery planning. Upload the family's regular recipes as documents, screenshots, recipe cards, or links; Ley started with about 10–15 meals. 2) Add standing shopping instructions: preferred brands, package sizes, produce quantities, pantry staples already stocked, and items bought elsewhere. 3) Each week, upload a screenshot of the meal plan and links for recipes not already saved. Ask Claude to derive the ingredients using those recipes and house rules, then return a list grouped by store department. 4) Review quantities, substitutions, and what it assumed was already in the pantry. Correct ambiguous units and save recurring corrections as Project instructions before using the list to shop.

How it went

Ley reports a successful Instacart-cart version but had to correct the initial quantities, including whole pork roasts versus pounds.

Worth knowing

This card uses her explicitly described shopping-list alternative; it does not assume an Instacart connection is configured.
